At the entrance to the Linden-Nord district, a popular and lively urban area in the German city of Hanover, an urban corner piece is being realised. A multifunctional cluster of buildings consisting of six individual ‘houses’, three high and three low. The size of these houses corresponds to the urban fabric of Linden, which consists of closed but highly partitioned building blocks. This specific, fine grain of buildings is carried through into the new design – which is tailored to the site that has been derelict for years. The new corner piece will play a significant role in the appearance of Linden, as a characteristic gateway to the neighbourhood. Shops will be provided on the ground floor, with offices, care homes and flats on the upper floors. Each house will be articulated as an individual element, each with its own entrance and facade construction. The three high ‘Hochhausen’ contain the vertical circulation, the three low ones connect on to it. Together, they form an inseparable urban ensemble. The corner section is visible from all directions, turning the side facades of the ‘Hochhausen’ into expressive, urban landmarks.
