WINNING ENTRY FOR VISITORS’ CENTRE HOGE VELUWE NATIONAL PARK

In the spring of this year, the Hoge Veluwe National Park put out an open call for the design of a new visitors’ centre. Out of eighty entries, seven offices were selected to present their vision of the new building (information desk, Park shop, restaurant, reception areas and toilets).
The final selection comprises the combination of Monadnock and De Zwarte Hond.According to the National Park, the vision of Monadnock and De Zwarte Hond contains a good balance between an attractive new building and an unassuming appearance, which dovetails with the landscape of the Park’s central area – designed by H+N+S Landscape Architects. The idea to situate the building in an open space along the edge of the forest is consistent with this.
An important consideration in the final selection was the uncomplicated basic form of the proposal, combined with an extraordinary interior. The vision regarding the building’s spatial section, and its sustainability, were both deemed excellent by the National Park. The Hoge Veluwe National Park describes its selection of Monadnock and De Zwarte Hond as a combination of experienced and talented architects, in keeping with the rich architectural tradition of the National Park. With great pleasure, we eagerly anticipate the continuation of this collaboration with the National Park in the forthcoming design process. The construction process is set to start in 2014, on the condition of funding.
